Zoe Saldana was born Zoe Yadira Zaldaña Nazario in New Jersey, moved to the Dominican Republic for 7 years and studied ballet there at Ritmos Espacio de Danza academy (actually known as "ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy), and then went back to the United States to continue her career.
In New York she studied acting at the Faces theater program and after that got her first role of relevance in the movie Center Stage (2000/I).
